Age: Young adult, no official age. (I headcanon her at 18.)
Canon: Juuni Taisen
Character History: Link! Item Regains: [Please list up to three regains that could be considered very important to your character – for example items your character is emotionally attached to – and up to three regains your character would enjoy. These regains will be obtained throughout the game as rewards for your character’s actions]
Important:
1)
"Cockscomb" - Niwatori's spading fork.
2) A dose of Dotsuku's "One Man Army" venom with its doping effects.
3) Hers and Dotsuku's beast gem (the poison gem they swallowed at the beginning of the Taisen and have to get from each other to win) She would prefer it if her own gem were not put back where they got it from, she would rather not die of poison.
Enjoy:
1) Spa-boiled eggs! She can never have enough!
2)
Some Pitohui birds. They're cute and also poisonous!
3)
her very cute orange dress Personality: Niwatori is a bit of a flighty yet timid girl! She's rather sheltered and naive, but a sweetheart, and if you get her excited (whether happy or nervous) she talks a mile a minute. She's also easily frightened and easy to trick. For the most part, she's the obedient type who will go along with whatever you say.
And if you believe all of that about her, you'll be dead before you know it.
Actually, Niwatori has been heavily indoctrinated by her adopted family to be a spy and a killer, and most of her personality revolves around that as well as the use of her powers. Niwatori's strategy in the killing game is to make fake allies and then backstab them, which she does with Dotsuku. After watching him for some time before the game using her birds, she strings him along until she can get his power up and betrays him by crushing his skull. Thanking him sincerely for it, she says she'll build a statue in his honor if she succeeds, and then immediately forgets what his face looked like. She
is genuinely energetic, she just has no particular sensitivity to death and will betray people at the drop of a hat. It's really easy for her to fake cry; she likes to pull wounded gazelle gambits and shoot people in the back.
She has amnesia, which has been exploited to take advantage of her lack of identity - she really doesn't think too hard or hold ideals of her own, other than following orders. As for other people, she just thinks of them merely as components of a situation. "Good people can fall into the darkness, villains can reform. I've betrayed so many people, I can't actually tell anymore who's my enemy and who's my ally." Her complete apathy toward people is because of her intense cynicism.
However, it is strongly implied that a lot of this is directly because she doesn't question anything about her life. In one of the alternative timelines, Nezumi asks her what wish she wants to grant in the Juuni Taisen, and her wish is for herself - specifically, she wants to have confidence, because she thinks it would make her happy if she could have a lot of pride in what she does. When Nezumi points out that she could just stop being a warrior, she reacts as if that was something that had literally never occurred to her before.
Furthermore, when she meets Sharyuu, who is a genuine peace lover that speaks from the heart with no dishonesty, she is under the effects of 'One Man Army' which allow her acute awareness of Sharyuu's heartbeat and breathing that act like a sort of lie detector. Meeting someone that is sincerely good hearted messes with Niwatori's head and makes her extremely stressed and upset. She doesn't kill her and Nezumi the way she planned, and simply tells them she won't be able to work with them. As soon as she does, she runs into another participant that she concludes might kill Sharyu, and goes against every logical thought in her head (to her own disbelief) to engage him in a fight she won't win. She basically dies for this pacifist after being around her for ten minutes. Fucking incredible. It really speaks volumes, that deep down she is actually desperately insecure about what she does and would change if she were ever actually capable of trusting people. But this is a tall order because she thinks doing that is foolish and she rejects it entirely.
As a note, it's mentioned that Niwatori could have done a lot better in the Taisen, except that she isn't at all used to fighting from a position of power the way One Man Army put her in. Rather her strategies are all based on fighting from a position of weakness, so she wasn't able to utilize her new ability to the fullest.
Whenever she's not fighting, it seems like the thing she prefers to do most is relaxing by herself. At the end of a mission she always likes to go to a hot spring and eat eggs. She also plays video games, comparing Dotsuku's power up to "maxing her stats in a game." The birds she controls, she does not consider with any affection, but still kind of approaches their use with sort of an air of gratitude and respect. She lets the birds peck the corpses to eat their fill, and when she dies herself, she instructs them to do the same to her own body. As the Niwa family does not love her, this is probably the closest form of attachment she ever allows herself to have.
Skills: Most of her mundane skills relate to espionage - infiltration, data acquisition, and of course lying a lot. She can also fight using a spading fork as a weapon, though on a spy mission she just uses a regular handgun.
Powers: Niwatori's main power is
Eye of the Cormorant, which allows her to manipulate birds and share visual information with them. For example, she uses them to spy, pull grenade pins on people from a distance, peck them to death, or eat their dead bodies!
If you give her back the One Man Army I put in her regains, that will give her super strength as well as a heightened mental state that allows her to sense people's heartbeat/breathing and tell if they're lying. It also makes her really fucking high strung \o/
How to Break Your Character: Hilariously Niwatori will start out just trying to survive this killing game so she can get back to her other, more important killing game. If there's a position she can take that will guarantee her safe return but she has to do some crimes, she'd take it without much fuss. Or really if you can convince her it'd be advantageous to the Niwa clan in general she'd probably be fine.
On the other hand if they want to be bastards you can remove her own beast gem from her regains (leaving just Dotsuku's for regain) and say it remained in her stomach from the beginning of the game, in which case she would be doing the crimes in order to get the antidote or to get it removed. That basically would only last for like a day though, the gem would eventually dissolve. If you want an angry chicken on day 1 then I'm your girl I guess!! This would probably eliminate any other Taisen-related motives though since not having all the beast gems would disqualify her (or anyone else for that matter) from winning it. Of course in a similar vein, anything else that would threaten her life directly or even just sort of inconvenience her too much would be worth it.
Like I think it could be kind of fun and gimmicky to do a motive like, if nobody kills then everyone becomes a monster permanently - werewolves would be funny. The Niwa clan refuses to have a daughter that turns into a doggo, that is not their #aesthetic
Sample: this was from a dating game but yanno Would you prefer that your character be a victim, a culprit, or do you have no preference? C U L P R I T
